Two years after Michael and I were married, and about one year after my having completed the entire PAX workshop curriculum, Michael was “downsized” by his employer. That event placed a strain on us both, severely testing me and the information I’d learned in the workshops.
After months of searching for new opportunity, Michael felt disheartened and unable to define his future. As much as I sympathized with his plight, the income from my own graphic design business was half Michael’s former salary, leaving me wondering how we would meet our expenses.
Instead of giving in to my insecurities, I chose to practice what PAX had taught me. I’d learned how to listen to Michael so he would open up to me, even though he felt shut down and bad about himself. I used information from the workshops to empower my husband, encouraging him to look beyond who he knew himself to be. I knew about a man’s need to provide from my first PAX workshop, so I made sure Michael understood the value of all the things he provided in our relationship, even if money wasn’t one of them.
Applying PAX’s information and tools helped us get through the crisis, and gave Michael the support he needed to make the right choice for our future. He brought the skills he’d honed in years of corporate life and applied them towards growing our own, expanded Graphic Design and Marketing business, Cowles Graphic Design.
Seven years later, I’m still applying what I learned from PAX. Because we work side by side, we’re together almost twenty-four hours a day, and while challenges present themselves, none are insurmountable. We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary last Valentine’s Day and are happier and more in love than ever. PAX has made all the difference.
